PROGRAM NOTES
Graceful birds that mate for life, doves hold a curiously serene position in the animal kingdom. Well known for their gentle cooing in the morning, many other dove calls abound. Dove Song evokes many of these calls and conversation with gestures that rush, decay, rise, and fall.
Dove Song was commissioned by Oboe Duo Agosto as part of an ongoing collaboration with members Charles Huang and Ling-Fei Kang. It’s been an honor to write this duo emblematic of dove mates and these two closely knit performers. The beautiful music they make resonates here in the gestural bird calls.
