PROGRAM NOTES
The saltarello is a lively folk dance from the Tuscany region dating back to the Medieval Ages. This duo was written for a music festival in the same region and so it only felt natural to embed some of that spirit into the piece. Both flute and marimba begin with ethereal trills and gestures to create a cloud of sound, out of which the saltarello emerges.
